12 dog cycle is a combination of human voice and instrument from Taiwanese artist Alice Hui-Sheng Chang and Australian artist Nigel Brown. They are both graduates of the MFA program at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University in Australia.
In returning to Taiwan in 2007, Alice brought the first non-conventional technique human vocal performance. She also won the First Prize in Sound Art in Digital Art Awards, Taipei, 2007.
They performed as the opening set in 2pi Festival in Hangzhou, China, 2007.
12 dog cycle now works and live in Taichung.

12 dog cycle pair the breathing limitations of piano accordion and human voice, extending the voice through extreme unconventional technique and the accordion’s acoustic properties with live electronic manipulation.

In performance, accordion tones borrowing from the drone and minimalist pattern music traditions fill and modulate the space inhabited by the audience. The sound begins as a physical byproduct of the performer’s exertion, but over time becomes a disembodied harmonic presence within the room. In contrast, the voice is mobile and distinctly human. While the accordion defines and modulates the performance space, the voice is the event; the tour guide through time that provides the audience with an entrance and an exit.

Joe Colley has been viewed as one of America’s most excellent artist over the past few years. He explores the multiple possibilities of sound through the making of music, installations, collaborations between video artists and dancers.

His most recent development has been exploring chance manipulation in irregular sound materials. Joe often uses a very simple set up to create work, and he has a special ear for sound. His sounds constantly reconstruct themselves from their own fragments, redeveloped, deleted or destructed materials.

He has published work through Auscultare, Antifrost, ERS, Manifold, C.I.P and his own label Povertech Industries. Colley won an Award of Distinction for the 2006 Prix Ars Electronica in Digital Music for his album Psychic Stress Soundtracks.

Yannick Dauby

Born in France in 1974. Sound artist. His artwork and research extended out from the base of music into improvisation, electroacoustic composition, and Ethnomusicology. He records natural, urban and industrial soundscape through Europe and other areas (like India and Taiwan).

These sounds become material for him to work with in composition, published CDs or other presentation means. He also collaborates with visual artists in concert or installation; sometimes via the internet in group collaboration, web streaming or downloads.

The main focus is on experimentation and exploration during the listening experience. His work is often shown internationally. His sound creation also links with academic research in soundscape, and the relationship that humans and other creatures share in aural development.

He has presented on various occasions in Taiwan in the last few years, and continuously collects sound materials throughout Taiwan. Many of Taiwan’s soundscapes have been used in his compositions and are incorporated into work published in France.

Chung-Kun WANG

Born in Kaohsiung in 1982. Work across the area of sound, sculpture, video, kinetic art and sound installation.

He received the First Prize in Live Performance in Digital Art Awards, Taipei, 2006.
In 2007, Chung-Kun Wang has developed a link between sound and sculpture. His new work ‘Sound Bottles’ in the project named ‘Big Bang' – 100 reasons to make sound had its first performance in Lacking Sound Festival in Taipei, later on its second showing in 2pi Festival in Hangzhou,China. After these performances attracted much attention, he had new nicknames like ‘Frankenstein’, ‘Physicist’ or ‘Edison’.

Chung-Kun Wang now lives and works in Taipei.

Fujui WANG

Born in Taipei in 1969. One of the most important figures in Taiwan’s early sound development. He set up Taiwan’s first sound label and paper publish ‘Noise’, which became a great link for international sound network. He went to San Francisco in 1995 for further education and began to experiment under the name ‘Ching-Shen-Ching’. He returned to Taiwan in 1997 and works with Pd/Gem、Max/Msp/Nato in interactive sound and image field. Fujui joined ‘ETAT Lab’ in 2000 for digital art development. Within the lab, he co-curated ‘Bias’ - Taiwan’s first sound art exhibition, and ‘Open play- Digital Art Festival, Taipei’. Currently works in TechArt in TNUA, and working towards expanding multi-dimensional sound development in Taiwan.

His work explores the unclear relationship between sound, light, space and body, with a passion to create and dream.

Chung-Han YAO

Born in Taipei in 1981.
An extremely active emerging sound artist.
Founder of "i/O" - a sound organization, then later organized multiple art event developed through emerging artists, like " What Sound is it in NanHai? " and " Lacking Sound Festival ".

He did 21 performances during 2006.
In 2007, his fluorescent light/ noise series has been performed at MOCA, Taipei; KLUUBB, Hong Kong; 2pi, Hangzhou,China.
The installation fluorescent light ‘un-’ exhibited as part of Asian Art Biennial in NTMOFA.

Chung-Han YAO now lives and works in Taipei.

Born in Nantou in 1981. He is an emerging artist whose work stands out as being calm and understated. He started working with sound in 2005. Aside from pure sound work and audio-visual work, he has been experimenting with sound installation.

Yung-Ta Chang now lives and works in Taipei. In April 2008, he will head to Japan as an internship in YCAM Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media.

noiz copy step 4

This is a combination of four sequences. The name ‘noiz copy’ describes the process of collaging noise patterns which vary across their duration. In this process, what is important for me is the harmony between noises, with crossing visual. What I want to present is an imaginary space for sound and vision, condensing the visual into ‘gap-like’ long lines to prevent it from overpowering.

Born in 1979 in Taipei.
He is active in organizing alternative/indie/experimental art/visual/music events.
He works with experimental music, sound installation, alternative film, philosophy, event production, light and sound setting, sound production and stage setting. He can be seen throughout Taiwan’s music and film related events.

He and a friend have published two mixed albums ‘On the top of the head’. His focus in art making is on things that are interesting, humorous, cultural, experimental and humanized.

Hsin-Yuan TSAI

Born in Tainun in 1982. She started with traditional fine art such as gouache, oil, charcoal and Chinese ink painting. She went to Fuzhou, China and developed Chinese ink painting further with two other masters. In 2004, she received her graduation as well as the First Prize in Tao-yuan Creative Arts Award with the work ‘House of Fantasy’.

In 2006, she was under much attention with her interactive sound performance using LED glove. She performed with many established sound artists both from Taiwan and overseas. She performed in Hangzhou, China for the fourth 2pi Festival in November 2006.

She was selected as part of Digital Art Festival, Taipei 2006 in the Sound Art Category for her piece ‘Remanent’. In 2007, her work ‘congeal’ was selected for a conference WOCMAT for computer music technique.
